Audiobooks

It’s only been about two years since I started listening to audiobooks. I never tried before because I didn’t think I’d like it. It’s nice to be able to clean while listening to a book, or continue my book while I’m driving. The narrators make all the difference when it comes to a great audiobook. I have listened to a lot of my favorite books after reading them just to get the audio experience. I loved listening to The Will by Kristen Ashley and These Is My Words by Nancy E. Turner. The Queens and Monsters series by J.T. Geissinger is one of the best things I have ever listened to. There are multiple narrators and each character has such a distinct voice. It made the stories vivid and beautiful and I cannot recommend the series enough. Welcome to the Dark Side by Giana Darling is one of my favorite MC romance books and I’ve read and listened to it. I’m not much for completing a series, and I’m not done with this one, but I did start listening to the other books and loved Dead Man Walking. I’m about halfway through listening to After the Fall. Yes, I am listening out of order. Don’t yell at me.

I listened to the iconic Hunting/Haunting Adeline  by H.D. Carlton and adored it. I bought the paperbacks and plan to read them at some point. I do think there’s a difference in what you get from an audiobook versus a paperback or an e-book. When I listen to a book I feel like the voices build an entirely new world that is taking place between the lines. When I read a physical copy I’m a lot more focused on the words exactly as they are on the page. Both are wonderful, and a distinct experience. It’s incredible to see what I take away from reading versus listening to the same book.

As a writer I am looking forward to turning my own books into audio books. I’ve been doing a lot of research on different ways to get an audiobook published in terms of which company to use. I have listened to a lot of books done by the same company so I’m hoping to be able to use them. I’m still very much in the planning stage of this, but with any luck it’ll be something that happens relatively quickly.

If you’re an author, do you have audiobooks? Readers, which audiobooks should I add to my TBR? Let me know at shalanabattles@gmail.com
